Half of dementia sufferers ‘not being formally diagnosed’

The health secretary has revealed less than half of people suffering from dementia are being diagnosed and joined the growing support for early diagnosis of the condition.

The health secretary has revealed less than half of people suffering from dementia are being diagnosed,  leaving hundreds of thousands struggling without support.

Mr Hunt also joined the growing support for early diagnosis of the condition.  Writing for The Telegraph, he said, “with early diagnosis and proper help for families living with dementia we can help people live healthily and happily at home for much longer. We can make our NHS much more sustainable, reducing the costs of avoidable and often distressing hospital care as well as the need for social care.”
